Effluent Treatment Plants (ETP)
Effluent Treatment Plants (ETP)
An Effluent Treatment Plant is a specialized facility used to treat wastewater generated by industries like textiles, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and tanneries. Because industrial "effluent" contains high levels of oils, heavy metals, and toxic chemicals, it cannot be discharged directly into the environment. ETPs use a combination of physical (settling), chemical (coagulation and flocculation), and biological (aerobic/anaerobic) processes to neutralize the water. The primary objective is to reduce the Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) and Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) to meet strict government environmental regulations before discharge.
